About David Genik | NYC Headshot Photographer
I picked up my first camera at 13 — a vintage Hasselblad 500c I found in my parents' basement. I had no idea what I was doing, but something clicked that day that never really stopped.
I spent years shooting architectural and commercial photography, getting deep into the technical side — lighting physics, camera mechanics, Photoshop, color theory. When I started shooting people, I realized none of that prepared me for the hardest part: getting a stranger to relax in front of a camera and look like themselves.
That's what I've spent the last 15+ years figuring out. I talk to casting directors and talent agents. I study what makes a headshot work and what makes it fall flat. I've built a process that's interactive, coaching-focused, and designed to get the best out of people who've never been photographed professionally before — and people who have.
My SoHo studio is built exclusively for headshots and portrait work. No weddings, no events. One thing, done well.
